Mughelli Named Earthman’s Eco Player of the Year

Ovie Mughelli, Atlanta Falcons fullback and Eco-Athlete will be honored as the first Earthman’s Pro Football Eco Player of the Year, on Friday, February 5th, two days before the 2010 Super Bowl. In a special ceremony, Mughelli will be presented with an award at Harbordale Elementary, a green school and less than a mile from the Super Bowl International media center in Ft. Lauderdale

Mughelli will be joined by “Earthman,” Lanny Smith, the 2006/07 North American Environmental Educator of the Year and founder of the Earthman Project.  Earthman will put on a special one hour performance at the event.  The Earthman project is a non-profit organization strategically using the power of music, the arts, and the internet to educate and activate millions of children and adults worldwide.

“Mughelli has proven to not only be a professional athlete but one who is committed to teaching children about caring for the environment,” said Earthman, “The school children and I have a very powerful and colorful event planned to honor him as the first NFL player to receive this special award.” This award’s co-sponsors are the Eco Chamber of Commerce, founded by Tia Diaz-Balart, wife of U.S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, and ENV Magazine (ENVMagazine.Org), South Florida’s leading “Online Voice for the Environment”, founded by well known South Florida publisher, Howard Salus.

Mughelli has committed himself to teaching young people the blessings of taking care of our planet.  Caring for the environment is a central part of his message to youth. Mughelli states: “As an Eco-Athlete encouraging practical lifestyle changes for families and youth, I strive to teach invaluable lessons about the environment in a fun and insightful way.” The Ovie Mughelli Foundation works with an amazing group of environmental leaders to develop football camps, green speaking series and eco-challenges that abundantly contribute to educating 8-17 year olds on the importance of being green.

Mughelli will also be joining with Earthman to inspire children around the world with a special video message introducing the very hip “H20” water conservation music video from Earthman & the Planet Earth Project, visually performed in sign language by children with hearing challenges. The “H20” song has been used on the radio during every Florida Marlins game since 2008, to teach sports fans to conserve water.  It has also been heard on South Florida’s top Urban radio stations and Radio Disney. It will be released at www.Earthman.Tv and on many websites.
